The symptoms of fungal disease in pets is determined by the invading microbe and whether it causes a systemic infection or whether it stays limited to a certain part of your pet's body. In order to provide a definite diagnosis, we recommend taking your pet to your Veterinarian. Your Veterinarian can do a culture and  determine which organism is causing your pet's condition. Microscopic identification, serology tests or in some cases your pet may be experiencing obvious symptoms that will indicate the correct treatment.   Typical symptoms may include: Increased sebum production, causing greasy skin and coat, Foul odor skin, mouth or there area with an overgrowth of yeast cells, Thick creamy or yellow discharges from the mouth, nose, ears, rectum or vagina or Skin rashes or Lesions, Sneezing and Difficulty breathing.
 Antifungals often have to be given for longer periods of time than antibiotics, since fungi can be more difficult to control.  Often pet owners make a common mistake when treating a fungal infection by not completing the treatment.  It is important to to provide the medicine to your pet through the full duration of the treatment, regardless of whether your pet's symptoms are gone or have improved. This will ensure that all of the fungus is eliminated.
