The first two things to determine are your pet's skin condition and what type of hair your pet has. If your pet has developed a new skin condition and you are looking for a product to treat this condition, it might be beneficial to check with your Veterinarian. Any time your pet suffers from a skin conition that is more than dandruff, dry and flaky skin it is best to have the skin condition examined by your Veterinarian.  Warning signs of a skin conditioned that needs to be treated: red, blotchy, raised bumps and/or accompained by your dog experiencing excessive itchiness and scratching to the point of damaging their skin. Some medical conditions can cause your pet to suffer from poor skin condition or hair loss. Thyroid hair loss problems are not caused by itching, chewing, and scratching but by systemic hair loss, a type of Alopecia or Balding.

Allergies to your pet's enviroment or simply your pet's dog food can can result in a poor coat. Oatmeal based shampoos, organic, or dye free hypoallergenic products can be the best choice when allergies are present.

If your pet's hair type is normal it is typically not greasy or dry and most shampoos will be fine.

If your pet has dry hair it is best to choose conditioning shampoos or follow shampooing with a conditioning rinse.
