Allergy & Hot Spot Treatments Click here for pricing and to Buy Now!
Hot spots occur as single, intensely itchy lesions resulting from self-inflicted trauma to the skin. These lesions can appear within minutes and predominantly occur when allergic reactions within the skin cause a sensation of itchiness or pain. The dog attempts to alleviate the hot spot by licking, chewing, or scratching which leads to trauma and further inflammation to the skin. --- The most common causes for hot spot development in dogs are allergic conditions associated with: flea allergies, atopy, food allergy, parasites mange, anal gland problems, clipping and grooming which can cause localized inflammation of the skin, or skin infection. Yeast infections, drug reactions, and autoimmune disorders are less commonly the cause of hot spots. Regardless of the subsequent choices for topical and/or systemic treatment of the hot spot, all the fur covering and immediately surrounding the lesion must be clipped or shaved. In many cases, sedation or a topical anesthetic is required to perform this task because of the sensitivity and pain associated with the lesion. Once the hair is removed, the lesion is gently washed with an antimicrobial shampoo such as Universal Medicated Shampoo by Vet Solutions. Care should be taken to ensure that all residual soap is removed and the lesion should be gently patted dry. Many dogs need to wear a protective device, such as an Elizabethan collar, to prevent incessant chewing, licking or scratching that will produce further trauma to the hot spot and delay healing.
Dogs that recover from hot spots frequently go on to develop recurring lesions related to the primary underlying cause i.e. allergy, parasites, etc.. Therefore, identification and elimination of the factors that contribute to hot spot formation are essential for controlling the development of these lesions. Let VetApprovedRx help you find the best solution to relieve your dog's hot spots and skin allergies. If your pet requires a medication/treatment that you do not see offered please call us at:1.877.847.7389 and we will do our best to locate the product at the best possible price.

Flea & Tick Click here for pricing and to Buy Now!
Fleas and ticks are the most common external parasite on our pets and because of this it is very important to have flea and tick control for your pets. At VetApprovedRx we sell Advantage, Capstar, Comfortis, Frontline Plus, K9Advanitx, Preventic collars, Mycodex spray, flea and tick shampoos and environmental treatments for fleas and ticks.
---
Flea and ticks are often a problem that pet owners struggle with, it can be very frustrating and expensive to deal with a flea infestation. Prevention is always the cheaper more effective route to deal with fleas. In addition to financial expense and frustration Fleas and ticks cause many problems that affect our pets more directly. They can carry diseases that our pets can contract, such as skin irritation, flea allergy dermatitis, tapeworms, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Erhlichiosis. By using appropriate flea and tick control we can avoid these problems and disease our pets can contract from these parasites. Most flea and tick control products are topical and applied to the dog or cat on the back between the shoulder blades. Capstar is an oral pill that is very effective at killing fleas on dogs and cats. It can be given daily and used in combination with Program and or Sentinel for heartworm and flea control. Capstar lasts for 24 hours and starts working within 30 minutes of administration. Comfortis is a newer oral once a month flea prevention. Comfortis is an excellent choice for dogs that have flea allergies because Comfortis paralyzes the flea's mouth so that it cannot bite the dog. Once the flea cannot bite the dog the flea allergy dermatitis will subside.
In cats fleas are one of the causes of tapeworms. As the cat grooms itself it ingests the flea and the flea carries an immature stage of the tapeworm and the cat now has tapeworms. Using a flea and tick control product will help reduce the possibility of our cats and dogs contracting tapeworms.
One important thing to remember in the treatment of a flea infestation is not only treating the pet, but all of the pets in the home as well as the environment both inside your home and out. Special areas of concern would be the pet's bedding or any area that is frequented by the pet. Fleas and their larva move out of the light and embed into shaded areas. So It is important to treat areas under cushions under couches, chairs or area that casts a shadow. VetApprovedRx offers environmental flea treatments such as Mycodex spray, Knockout Foggers and Knock ES to help our customers in their efforts to rid their homes of fleas.
Ticks can carry many very harmful diseases that need to be prevented. Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Erhlichiosis are tick borne diseases that cause severe illness in our dogs and require prolonged treatment with antibiotics and other medications. Often Lyme disease will be dormant and come back after a period of time and require re treatment. It is important to keep ticks off our pets at all costs to help prevent these diseases. VetApprovedRx carries the necessary flea and tick control, Advantage, Capstar, Comfortis, Frontline Plus, K9Advantix, Preventic collars, Mycodex spray, flea and tick shampoos and environmental treatments, for your pets to help eliminate these parasites and prevent the diseases mentioned previously.

Heart Worm Prevention Click here for pricing and to Buy Now!
As veterinarians we know the importance of preventing heartworms in dogs by using a monthly heartworm preventative.Heartworms are transmitted to your dog by a bite from a mosquito. The mosquito bites an infected dog with heartworms and ingests the larva or microfilaria.
---
Then the mosquito bites another dog that is not on heartworm medicine. The larva then migrates through the dog&rsquos tissue into the blood vessels and ends up in the right side of the heart. Heartworms can get very long often over 12 inches in length and will over time cause many serious medical conditions. The end result of heartworms in dogs is right sided heart failure and ultimately death. Unfortunately as veterinarians we see these dogs die of heartworm disease and know that this is a disease that can be prevented with a simple once a month heartworm preventative. This is the reason it is so important to have your pet on monthly heartworm medicine and to take your pet to your veterinarian at least annually, if not every 6 months for a good physical examinations and heartworm tests.
Heartworms in Dogs
Heartworm disease in dogs is preventable and there are many good heartworm preventatives available today. Heartgard Plus, Interceptor, Iverhart Plus and Iverhart Max, Sentinel and Triheart are the most common oral heartworm preventatives. There are also several heartworm preventatives that are topical. Advantage Multi and Revolution are the topical heartworm preventatives available at VetApprovedRx. All of these products provide heartworm prevention when used once a month. The oral heartworm preventatives provide protection from heartworms but also from certain intestinal parasites. Insulin/Diabetes/Pancreatic Care Click here for pricing and to Buy Now!
The pancreas is a small organ located in the abdomen. In addition to being part of the endocrine system and producing the hormones insulin and glucagon, it produces digestive enzymes that are necessary for the proper digestion of food. This aspect of the pancreatic function is called the exocrine pancreas. The digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas are normally inactive until they are secreted into the small intestine. Once in the intestine, the enzymes become active and aid in the digestion of food.---
Pancreatitis means the pancreas is inflamed. The inflammation can become severe, and the digestive enzymes that are normally inactive can become active and the enzymes cause damage to the pancreas. This causes a cycle of increasing inflammation.
Diabetes has become a common diagnosis amung pets, while diabetes occurs less commonly in cats, some research indicates an increase in the incidence in cats. Pet owners should be aware of the potential threat to their pets. There are two types of Diabetes that can affect your pets: Mellitus and insipidus.
If your pet is diagnosed with diabetes insipidus, the kidney has either become insensitive to ADH, or it no longer produces a sufficient quantity of the hormone.
Without the hormone, the pet's urine volume becomes very high and diluted. Common symptoms associated with Diabetes insipidus are excessive drinking, excessive urination and sometimes a well trained pet will start urinating in the house. Such symptoms can be easily mistaken for behavior problems so it is important to see your Veterinarian for proper diagnosis. When you see your veterinarian it is important to share with them any changes that you have noticed in your pet including changes in behavior, or eating and drinking patterns.
Diabetes Mellitus is known as sugar diabetes, diabetes mellitus is caused by a deficiency of insulin. Insulin is secreted by the pancrease and is the hormone that regulates sugar absorption. The occurrence of diabetes mellitus is seen more commonly in dogs particularly females and cats between the ages of 5 to 7.
When your pet's body can no longer produce insulin, sugar builds up in the bloodstream, causing a multitude of health issues.
The signs and symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus are often gradual and can be easily overlooked. The majority of pets diagnosed with diabetes mellitus are overweight and obesity is often a precursor and sign. Similar to diabetes insipidus, this diabetes mellitus also causes an increase in urine production, thrist and appetitie.
Diabetes is not a death sentence for your pet. Diabetes can be managed successfully with insulin therapy and attention to diet and exercise. Effective diabetes treatment of pets, will restore the quality of life of dogs and cats with diabetes mellitus. VetApprovedRx offers the most common treatments for diabetes and pancreatic care, the same products that your veterinarian will offer in their clinic. Paw Care and Nails Click here for pricing and to Buy Now!
If you were to have someone other than yourself offer to trim your nails with a nail trimmer you might refuse. nbsp Both cats and dogs tend to shy away from having their nails trimmed. There are some things you can do to make the task easier for you and for your pet. Make sure that you have nail trimmers that are not dull and that you are familiar with how they work. It is also important to know the anatomy of the claw, located in the nail is the quick which is where the nerves and blood vessels are. Do NOT cut this sensitive area. It's better to be cautious and cut too little of the nail rather than risk cutting this area. If you do accidentally cut the quick, any bleeding can be stopped with a styptic powder or stick. It's a good idea to keep it nearby while you trim. ---
You can prepare your pet by making the process seem familiar and always rewarded positively. Before you trim your pet's nails for the first time, try massaging or holding your pet's paw for several seconds, if they resist do not scold them, once they have settled try again and reward them with a treat.
