Pancrezyme is used to treat pancreatic insufficiency or maldigestion syndrome. It's used in pets whose bodies are not making a sufficient amount of pancreatic enzymes. 
An enzymatic concentrate derived from porcine pancreas containing standardized lipase, protease and amylase plus esterases, peptidases, nucleases and elastase.

PANCREZYME® is an enzymatic concentrate derived from porcine pancreas containing standardized lipase, protease and amylase plus esterases, peptidases, nucleases and elastase. Indications: For use in animals with deficient exocrine pancreatic secretions, as a digestive aid in enzyme replacement therapy where digestion of carbohydrate, protein and fat is inadequate.

Active Ingredients:Each teaspoonful 2.8 g contains:

Lipase 71,400 U.S.P. units
Protease 388,000 U.S.P. units
Amylase 460,000 U.S.P. units 

Dosage and Administration:

The dose should be adjusted according to the severity of the condition and the weight of the animal.

Powder:
Adult dogs: 3/4-1 teaspoonful with each meal.
Adult cats: 1/4-3/4 teaspoonful with each meal.
Mix well with moistened food canned or dry and let stand at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before feeding.
Frequent feeding, at least three 3 times a day is important.

Precautions:

Discontinue use in animals with symptoms of sensitivity.

Cautions: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Possible Side Effects:

High doses may cause diarrhea, cramping, or vomiting. If you observe any of these reactions, contact your veterinarian immediately.

May cause mouth irritation if not mixed well with moistened food and allowed to stand.

If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums,

cold limbs, or coma.

If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Do not use in animals hypersensitive allergic to pork products.

Consult with your veterinarian regarding physical examinations and laboratory testing necessary prior to and during treatment with pancreatic enzymes.

Human Precautions:

In humans, inhaling the powder may cause an asthma attack or irritation to the lungs.

The powder may irritate or burn the skin on contact.

Wash immediately if you get any on your skin or your pet&rsquos skin.

Wash hands after handling this medication.


Drug, Food and Test Interactions:

Consult your veterinarian before using pancreatic enzymes with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, antacids, cimetidine, and

other histamine H2 receptor antagonists medications used to decrease stomach acid, since interactions may occur.

Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of pancreatic enzymes.
