Frequently Asked Questions:
[these FAQ's are the Merial the manufacturers site]:http://www.certifect.com/faqs.aspx
Q. What is the difference between CERTIFECT and FRONTLINE Plus?
A. CERTIFECT combines the 2 main ingredients found in FRONTLINE Plus with a third powerful ingredient, amitraz. The addition gives CERTIFECT faster and more sustained tick-killing power.1
Q. Does my dog really need tick control?
A. Yes. Ticks are now in more places and in higher numbers2, putting more dogs at risk of developing potentially debilitating and deadly tick-borne diseases. That's why The Companion Animal Parasite Council recommends year-round tick control in all areas of the United States. The growing tick population and the spread of tick-borne diseases make effective tick control even more important for dogs.
Q. How quickly does CERTIFECT kill ticks and fleas?
A. Research data shows CERTIFECT starts killing ticks on treated dogs in 6 hours and kills up to 100% of them within 18 hours of contact.1 Fleas will start dying within 4 hours - with up to 100% of them dying within 12 hours of contact.3,4
Q. Can I use CERTIFECT on my cat?
A. No. CERTIFECT is for use on dogs only.
Q. I have a dog and a cat. Can I still use CERTIFECT on my dog?
A. Yes. In studies, no adverse effects were seen in cats that share households with treated dogs.5
Q. How does CERTIFECT spread over a dog's body? How long does this take?
A. CERTIFECT spreads over the dog's body by a process called translocation. When applied, the formula is gradually dispersed by the dog's natural oils, collecting in the oil glands in the skin. It is then wicked onto the hair over the next 30 days. The translocation process can take up to 24 hours to complete.
Q. Do ticks and fleas have to bite my dog for CERTIFECT to work?
A. Ticks and fleas do not have to bite your pet for CERTIFECT to work. CERTIFECT kill ticks and fleas when they come into contact with your dog's haircoat. The ticks will die within 18 hours,1 and fleas will die within 12 hours of contact with your treated dog.3
Q. Why am I seeing more fleas on my dog after applying CERTIFECT?
A. After the application of CERTIFECT, you may see more fleas, but this is an indication that the CERTIFECT is working. CERTIFECT makes fleas hyperexcited, drawing them to the top of the haircoat before dying. This will make them more visible to you.
Q. I treated my dog with CERTIFECT, but I still see fleas in my home. Why?
A. The fleas you see most likely started as flea eggs that were deposited in the environment before you began using CERTIFECT. Consecutive monthly applications of CERTIFECT to your pet will assist with the elimination of an indoor flea life cycle. In some geographical regions in the United States, it may be required to use the product year-round.
Q. How does CERTIFECT kill fleas before they can lay eggs on my dog?
A. Once new adult fleas jump on your dog, they must be present on the host for at least 24 to 36 hours before they can lay eggs. Our research data indicates that CERTIFECT, when used monthly, will kill your dog's fleas within 12 hours of application3 &ndash before they can lay eggs.
Q. Does CERTIFECT have an expiration date?
A. CERTIFECT does not carry an expiration date. We recommend storing CERTIFECT at room temperature and keeping it sealed in its original packaging. If stored under these conditions, CERTIFECT will not expire.
Q. How long after application can my dog be bathed or go swimming?
A. CERTIFECT remains effective for a full 30 days, even if your dog swims or is bathed. After application, keep the dog from getting wet until the application area appears dry, usually 24 hours. If CERTIFECT is to be applied after a bath, make sure the dog is completely dry before application.
Q. Can I use CERTIFECT if I have already applied another flea- and tick-control product?
A. There are no known interactions between CERTIFECT and any other flea- and tick-control products. However, it is recommended to wait at least 24 hours between applications.
Q. Can CERTIFECT be reapplied before the 30-day treatment interval is up?
A. Research results show that CERTIFECT controls ticks and fleas for a full month, so reapplication is unnecessary within 30 days.
Q. Where can I buy CERTIFECT?
A. CERTIFECT for dogs is available only from your licensed veterinarian.
Q. Why is CERTIFECT only available through my veterinarian?
A. It is Merial's sales policy to sell our small animal products only where a veterinarian-client-patient relationship exists. Merial believes that the veterinarian is the only professional qualified to serve the health care needs of pets, the concerns of their owners and the appropriate use of our small animal products such as CERTIFECT and FRONTLINE Brand Products.
